With a population of about 3,000,000, Taipei is a crowded city with vibrant blend of traditional culture and cosmopolitan life. Nestled in a basin in the north of Taiwan, Taipei is the political, economic, educational and recreational center of Taiwan with large numbers of significant cultural sights located throughout the city, such as a “must-see” for lovers of ancient Chinese culture: the National Palace Museum, which houses the world’s largest and finest collection of Chinese art, exhibiting a civilization that spans over five thousand years.
The eastern section of the city reveals the modern face of Taipei with its glass and steel skyscrapers, wide boulevards and the World Trade Center. The area was largely under-used field until the 1970s when the city began to develop the area as a financial and commercial district. Whereas two western districts, Wanhua and Datong being the first permanent settlements of Chinese immigrants, retain many of the old customs as evidenced in the architecture, sculptures, and ceremonial activities that take place in the old streets and temples. The Taipei Confucius Temple and the Confucius Ceremony is one of the well-known examples.
Taipei City also offers a wide variety of delicious Chinese cuisine, national parks with breathtaking scenery, excellent thermal spring resorts, the largest shopping mall in the Far East and a modern mass rapid transport system. Coincidently, the Taipei Food Festival will take place during the championship. Various delicacies and interesting snacks, which present the double face of Taipei, both with traditional and international characteristics, will be plentifully served with reasonable price.

All participants will be accommodated in either in the Leofoo Hotel or in the First Hotel with cozy rooms and enjoyable restaurant. Both is located only 40 minutes drive from CKS International Airport, 30 minutes drive to the competition venue and 15 minutes drive to Taipei Main Station.
Transportation in Taipei
Taipei has a convenient public transportation system. It’s very efficient to travel throughout Taipei with the Taipei MRT (Mass Rapid Transit). There are six different lines: the Danshui line starts from NTU Hospital and ends at Danshui, the Muzha line starts from Zhongshan Junior High School and ends at Taipei Zoo, the Nangang /Banqiao line currently operational section from Kunyang to Xinpu, the Xindian line starts from the Xindian and ends at NTU Hospital, the Zhonghe line starts from Dingxi and ends at Nanshijiao, the Xiaonanmen line connections the Hsimen and C.K.S. There are four types ticket for passengers: One-day pass ticket, Single-journey ticket, EasyCard, Group ticket. One day pass ticket without limits on journeys, distance and can be used on all routes, fare NT$150. Group ticket when in a group of 10 or more people there is a 20% discount, while in a group of 40 or more people there is a 30 % discount. Easy Card and Single-journey ticket, the fare is calculated by distance and is relatively cheap.
The bus system is also reliable and efficient. There are more than 300 bus lines and the major transfer hub is around Taipei Main Station. There are more than 50 bus lines going through here. The bus system is extremely comprehensive, but can be difficult for non-Chinese speakers. Most of the bus drivers do not speak English and there is no English information on bus stops. The fare for traveling within one section is NT$15 per section. Buses do not provide change. Most bus services run until 23:00.
Since 2002 , all local buses and MRT stations accept EasyCard , a stored-valued smart card used for all modes of transit. An EasyCard is sold for NT$500, which includes $400 stored-value and $100 refundable deposit. EasyCard can be bought and added value at MRT stations and convenience stores throughout Taipei City and Taipei County.
